WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT - New Lancashire Heeler Puppy Owner

Hi. I would just like to tell you all about how much our Lancashire Heeler, Ulric, has changed our lives. He is the happiest of dogs, sociable, friendly and fantastic with other dogs and small children. He remains unfazed by being put in places that are noisy, unfamiliar and confusing. He has already traveled across the UK and has had a huge impact on those he has met both on his travels and in the village we live in (despite being described as a 'gerbil on a lead' when very small!). He is a fantastic ambassador for the breed and I know that everyone in this part of Bedfordshire now knows what a Lancashire Heeler is. Here he is in one of his more 'relaxed' moments. - Helen Paris
- and so say all of us! Welcome Helen - Ulric is now in the puppy gallery!

The Lancashire Heeler Association is adopting a new puppy as its mascot! The puppy will arrive in the next few weeks. A spokesperson for The Association said " We don't know yet whether we are expecting a boy or a girl but we would like to invite Association members and members of the wider Lancashire Heeler Community to help us find a name in time for the big arrival."The spokesperson would not be drawn on further details but did stress that best practice in respect of all health tests would be followed and that the puppy was to have the best of homes and would undoubtedly be extremely well socialised. The Lancashire Heeler Community have been promised further details in due course. A small prize is offered for the winner. Entries close Easter Sunday and the winner will be announced on Easter Monday.
Entries for the competition, giving your suggested names, should be sent to Caz Lee.

Vicky Morrison has been known in the Heeler community for some time as an extremely talented artist having undertaken commissions for many Lancashire Heeler owners in the past. The good news is that she has taken up her sketch pad and canvasses again. You can see some of Vicky's work and find her contact details on her new Facebook Page 'Paw Prince'. Form an orderly queue please!

The trophy is inscribed 'Robert, Lucey & Nikki, Best Handler Award 2011.' Robert is extremely proud of "his 2 wee girls" as I am sure they are of him. Congratulations to all on well deserved recognition.

The Lancashire Heeler Association is a new Lancashire Heeler Club for the UK!
A new Lancashire Heeler Club has been formed in the UK. The idea for the club has come from Caz Lee and Kim Clare (Littlehive). It has quickly become established and now has in excess of 60 members, having recently held its inaugural meeting. It has a new president, Mrs Dorothy Malins (Embages) and has already announced dates of a companion show, fun day and visit to the Kennel Club. A health Seminar is also planned - details to be announced shortly. Chairman Miss Tracy St Clair Pearce (Traqdean) also informs us that the club will apply for Kennel Club registration in due course.
You are also able to join on line. Full details on the Lancashire Heeler Association website.

On 26th September the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Association organised a very successful Companion Dog Show, Fun Day and British Heritage Dog Breeds Parade at Abbotsley Golf Club, St Neots. Sky TV were there to film for a programme on the Heritage Breeds scheduled for transmission later this year. Lancashire Heelers were represented by Jackie Reid with Doddsline Sparkey and Doddsline Flora, Margaret McFarlane with Bowanne Sugar Daddy and Jacky Cutler with Lankeela Lucky Heather and Lankeela Tutti Frutti. Jackie and Margaret wore their 'Victorian Farmers' costumes and Margaret and 'Billy Bean' were interviewed by the TV crew.
Email from Paul Keevil:
Hi everyone,Just a very quick eMail from me to thank you all for supporting this event. So sorry it was so cold and peed with rain all day - but then it is nearly October.Your attendance and performance was not really about the spectators who were there on the day, it was much more about getting our breeds on SKY TV and getting our message over, which I think we achieved. Our director on the day said she had loads of good footage and funny enough as we were all crammed into the marquee it gave the event a bit more of a buzz as it looked a lot more crowded that it actually was and everyone entered into the spirit of the day.Experience has taught me that for each hour filmed works out to be about 30 seconds on screen time and of course I do not know what will come out in the edits, but I suspect we may be getting something like 8 minutes on screen time, which today is very good - that is how the TV works now, in short sound bites, sort of like an MTV rock video!I hope you all met our host and owner of the golf complex, Dr Vivian Saunders O.B.E. an amazing lady, self made millionaire and now a committed Cardigan owner. She is very sympathetic to the cause of our Heritage Breeds and has offered the use of FREE committee rooms for any Heritage breed club committee meetings. This and the fact that the hotel is totally dog friendly as are the golf courses (keep to the foot path!), would make it a good possible choice for other breeds as a show venue. In view of this we awarded her the accolade of "British Heritage Breeds Dog Friendly Venue of the Year" and I presented her with a crystal bowl to mark this occasion. We will be announcing this next week as this week the KC have just announced the winners of their "Open for Dogs" awards. - What fun!I know that many of you made a special effort to make this event and I am really grateful as it really did make a difference. As soon as I hear anything about a possible transmission date, I will let you know.Hope to bump into you again at Discover Dogs in London.Kindest regards,
Paul Keevil

News from a very (and justifiably!) proud Joy Fairbairn. Congratulations to Firkin and Joy. No doubt we'll be hearing lots more about the 'Pocket Rocket'!

Lancashire Heeler Agility Star!
Firkin, (Simonsville Casper) has just had his first major win at Wigton, Cumbria Kennel Club agility show by having the only clear round and winning his class in Grade 1 Agility.
His Mummy Joy hasn't stopped smiling since and is so proud of him. Having been to 3 big two day KC agility shows so far, he is the only Lancashire Heeler on site and receives a lot of attention. He is a little pocket rocket and usually does the course perfectly. If only he could lick his mum into shape and get her to smarten up on her directions this could be a team with a bright future!

January 2010 - Manchester Best Veteran

A Lancashire Heeler is never too old to work, play.... well we could fill a page and often do. Lankeela Lucky Heather proved this week that we can also add looking beautiful and a picture of health and fitness to that list, as seen here.
Heather was awarded Best Veteran at Manchester at the grand old age of fourteen and a very proud Jacky Cutler also took home more prizes with Heather's daughters - a First in Limit Bitch for Lankeela Tutti Frutti and a 2nd in Post Graduate Bitch for Lankeela Top Totty.
Well done to Jacky and the 'Lankeela girls' and all Manchester winners. Further results were:

January 2010 - Lancashire Heeler puppies at Foxthyme

Enid Lord has sent me this beautiful picture of her litter of 9 Lancashire Heeler puppies at only 12 hours old on 2nd January. Amongst them are 7 Lancashire Heeler puppy bitches.
This is Foxthyme Ellie's last litter. Ellie is Dog World top Lancashire Heeler Brood Bitch for the 2nd year running and is Dam to CH Foxthyme Eliza and CH Foxthyme Oliver Cromwell ShCM. Congratulations Enid - and Ellie of course! Enid tells me that she has reared a litter of 9 Lancashire Heeler puppies before but many years ago. This time daughter Samantha has been drafted in to help with all the hard work and puppy socialising.
January 2010 - Lancashire Heelers in Stud Book Band A
The January Kennel Club Gazette has the latest Stud Book Bands for 2010 and Lancashire Heelers have been placed back in Band A (1st in Open Class). Effectively this means that Stud Book numbers for Lancashire Heelers will only now be awarded for 1st place in Open classes and CC/RCC/JW winners. This is due to the declining number of Lancashire Heelers being shown, as they are based on the entries for the past two years.
November 2009 - Lancashire Heeler Agility star is 'Extra Special'
Clive, (Telpoolwyn Extra Special), at our club agility show, came a 3rd in agility and 2nd in jumping,
Also he has got a distinction in Heel work to music progress award!!
I'm very proud of my boy.
