Lancashire Heeler Puppies
LOOKING FOR LANCASHIRE HEELER PUPPIES FOR SALE?

Thank you for visiting our website puppy page, if there are Lancashire Heeler puppies for sale you will find them listed below.
The list is updated periodically. The breeders listed are members of the Lancashire Heeler Club, and have to abide by the Club's Rules and Code of Ethics, but the Co-ordinator is not able to "recommend" any particular breeder.
It is important that you visit the breeder's home where you can see the litter and the mother together. If possible you should try to visit more than once before you collect your puppy. You should be prepared for the breeder to ask you many questions, before letting you have one of their precious Lancashire Heeler puppies, and you should not be afraid to ask any that you have. Good breeders will know their puppies as individuals and want to match them to the right owners. It may take you a big effort to do this but it would be in your best interest to take as much trouble as possible to find the right Lancashire Heeler puppy for you and your family.
If you are intending to buy a Lancashire Heeler puppy and are told it will be registered but the papers are not available, please contact me (Chris Norman) for help and advice. You may have "fallen in love" with that puppy, but please check first to avoid being disappointed.
When you buy your Lancashire Heeler puppy the breeder should give you the following:
- A receipt for your payment. This is your proof of ownership (a Registration Certificate or Pedigree is NOT proof of ownership).
- A Contract of Sale setting out any conditions such as their policy for refunding should the puppy have to be returned.
- A Pedigree which tells you the ancestry of your puppy, often three or five generations (note this itself is NOT a Registration Certificate).
- The Kennel Club Registration Certificate, which would usually be available when you collect your puppy. If not available on collection of your puppy, a signed statement confirming it will be forwarded when received from the Kennel Club. Only the breeder is able to register the Lancashire Heeler puppy with the Kennel Club, and both parents have to be already registered themselves. An explanation should be given regarding any endorsements on the Registration Certificate and the circumstances in which any such endorsements would be removed. They should ask you to sign a statement that you accept any such endorsements. The current endorsements that are available to breeders are 'Progeny not eligible for registration' and 'Not eligible for the issue of an Export Pedigree' so if you are planning on breeding from your Lancashire Heeler puppy or taking it abroad you should discuss this with the breeder before purchase.
- A BVA/KC (British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club) or other relevant authority eye test certificate for both parents for any current eye conditions.
- A certificate confirming the puppy has been litter screened (eye tested) at approximately 6 - 8 weeks old.
- DNA Test Certificate. As the breed now has a DNA test available for PLL it is advisable to check whether the parents have been DNA tested and what their genetic status is. Breeders who do not have their dogs or puppies DNA results have no way of knowing whether they are Clear, Carriers or whether they will become Affected. The breeder should give you a copy of this Certificate (either for the parents or for the puppy itself). If both parents are certified genetically Clear then all the puppies from that litter will be genetically Clear and do not have to be DNA tested themselves. If a Carrier or Affected is bred from, they should only be mated to a genetically Clear dog. If one parent is Clear and the other is either a Carrier or an Affected, then the puppies themselves should be DNA tested to ascertain their status (either Clear or Carrier) and a Certificate should be available to confirm this.
- Should the puppy you are buying be a Carrier, the breeder should explain to you the situation regarding Carriers, and make you aware of the implications should you wish to breed from it. As the gene pool for the breed is relatively small at present, it is likely that Carriers (and even some Affecteds) may continue to be bred from for at least another couple of generations. More information can be found on the AHT site FAQ page.
- Certificate of test results if the parents/puppies have been DNA tested for CEA. As with PLL, dogs can be identified as Normal, Carriers or Affected. Eye testing will confirm whether or not the dog is clinically affected, but will not reveal the genetic status. For the foreseeable future it is possible some carriers of CEA may still be bred from, but in time it is hoped this condition will be totally eradicated from the breed. Read more about CEA.
- A diet sheet and several days' worth of food so you can continue feeding what the puppy has been used to before deciding whether to continue with this or change the food as required.
- Details of worming already undertaken and products used, and a timetable for future worming.
- An insurance cover note if the puppy is insured, with details of ongoing insurance cover.
- An innoculation certificate if applicable or advice on timing of innoculations for Lancashire Heeler puppies.
The breeder should also discuss with you feeding, worming, grooming, training, insurance, eye testing, exercise needs, and they should encourage you to contact them if you have any problems in the future. If possible all responsible breeders will take back or help with rehoming any Lancashire Heeler puppies or dogs that they sell should this become necessary.
