Why don't you provide a button for 'Add to home page' and 'Add to Favourites' etc

There are 2 reasons for this.
1. If you are clicking on these buttons you are allowing an application to make changes in your browser for i.e. you are not in control of the changes yourself. Allowing these scripts to run on your computer is a security risk and not a practice we encourage. There are some unscrupulous or amateur sites where this could leave you with computer problems. Better safe than sorry.

2. As well as the variation in different browsers, many antivirus and firewall programs turn off these scripts because they may be malicious (as explained above). These people would need to make the change anyway.

Why should I check that I have the most up to date version of my browser?

Browsers are updated all the time. As well as making sure that you have all the latest plug ins to be able to view new techniques that the web is able to provide, it is important to upgrade from a security point of view. For example: From our statistics we know that some people view this site with Internet Explorer 6. This has serious security flaws which can give rise to virus software and Trojans gaining access to your computer.

How do I know what browser version I am using?

Go into the help menu of your browser and click on About Internet Explorer (or Firefox / Safari etc) That will tell you what version you are currently using. In Firefox there will also be a link to search for updates in the help menu.
